Heli Skiing
Our Heli Skiing Terrain
Our heliskiing and heliboarding area is one of the largest in the world and is the single most important reasons people choose to ski and ride with Northern Escape Heli Skiing. We offer our guests exclusive access to over 7,000 square kilometres, (1.7 million acres), of spectacular high alpine peaks and perfectly spaced old growth forests. To date we have established over 250 runs, with opportunities to ski/board first descents every day, along with naming rights of course, for many years to come.
We ski/board at elevations between 450 m and 2,450 m (1,500 – 8,000 feet). With runs of more than 2,000 vertical meters (6,500 vertical feet), many of which start high in the alpine and end deep in the valley bottoms well below treeline, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for! Combine our vast mountain terrain with our huge annual snowfall for the ultimate heli skiing tenure.
Heliskiing with Cat Skiing Back-up
Heliskiing with Cat Skiing back up ensures you ski a full day every day. Northern Escape Heli Skiing, located in BC’s remote Northwest, is renowned for providing one of the deepest, most reliable, snowpacks on the planet. It is no secret that all that deep fluffy stuff doesn’t fall from blue skies. It Snows up here, and it is Deeper up here!
Along with all that snow may come some challenging flying conditions; when it’s snowing too heavily to fly a helicopter safely to the mountain tops, we simply switch to our Cat Skiing terrain. All of our Heli Ski Packages include a reserved seat in one of our Snow Cats that are ready and standing by. This means you will Ski or Snowboard every day of your package. Over the season, our seven day packages average six days of Heli and one day of Snow Cat Skiing per week.
Our Cat Skiing area encompasses over 29 square km’s, (7,000 acres), which is nearly the size of North Americas largest resort. The zone has over 50 km’s (31 miles) of snow roads and offers some of the best tree skiing in our tenure. With an average run length of over 600 meters, (2,000 vertical feet), it is a powder paradise with everything from steep trees to pillows, and open bowls. When it’s storming and the snow is lying deep in the trees, instead of waiting in the lodge, you will be enjoying some of the deepest powder skiing/boarding available, thanks to our snow cat back up program.
If the weather clears enough to fly while we are Cat Skiing, the helicopter will pick us up and we seamlessly continue our day of deep powder Heli Skiing. Conversely, if we’re Heli Skiing and the weather starts to change for the worse, we will meet the Snow Cats and switch to deep.
